We Never Walk Alone Through Our Trials

Recently, as my pain has increased, it has limited what I can do each day. My greatest frustration is that Sherrie has to do so much without my help. For example, she had to take down all the Christmas decorations without me, but thankfully, she had help from the kids. We had to clean the church this morning, and I was vacuuming when I had to stop because the pain became too much. It weighs heavy on me that I have to sit and watch others work. Sherrie never complains though she suffers from arthritis and bone spurs all over her body so she has her own pain she deals with which only adds to my frustration. However, we have great kids who help carry some of the burden.

The challenges we are experiencing have caused me a great deal of introspection which has focused on enduring Trials, The Plan of Salvation, our Savior, and eternal families. On the subject of enduring trials, I have spent a great deal of time listening to conference talks, studying the scriptures, and praying for more faith. In the process, I have found many quotes and references which are of great worth to me. Below are a couple I’ve found recently.

George A. Smith, who served as a counselor to President Brigham Young, received the following counsel from the Prophet Joseph Smith at a time of great difficulty: “He told me I should never get discouraged, whatever difficulties might surround me. If I was sunk in the lowest pit of Nova Scotia and all the Rocky Mountains piled on top of me, I ought not to be discouraged but hang on, exercise faith, and keep up good courage and I should come out on the top of the heap at last.” (Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Joseph Smith Manual Chapter 19)

“As we seek our Heavenly Father through fervent, sincere prayer and earnest, dedicated scripture study, our testimonies will become strong and deeply rooted. We will know of God’s love for us. We will understand that we do not ever walk alone. I promise you that you will one day stand aside and look at your difficult times, and you will realize that He was always there beside you.” (President Thomas S. Monsoon “We Never Walk Alone” October 2013)

We are never alone in our trials and through faith and trust in the Lord, we will come out on top of the heap of our trials. May the Lord bless each of us to increase our faith and trust in the Lord.
