Through the Pain, Hope Remains
The horrible stories of people suffering through side-effects with chemo I can confirm are true. Even with all the advancements in side-effect prevention and treatment from chemotherapy some can get past the portcullis all and come barring down on you like a freight train full of nausea, dizziness, exhaustion, pain, and major brain fog. That train pulled into my station and stopped to let off symptoms that want a nice little holiday in my body and last night was quite the party. experienced bone pain that was more intense than any pain I have ever experienced and the "Please, rate your pain between zero and ten, ten being the worst pain you could cover it. 1,000 would be a more appropriate number. Anyhow I grabbed my leg in pain and tears flooded my eyes. I almost couldn't breathe and then a searing nerve pain hit my thigh as if someone placed a hot iron directly onto my skin. I was paralyzed. Sherrie woke and rushed to my side and pushed the nurse's button. She caressed me and talked me through the pain. After what felt like an eternity the pain began to subside and I was able to think clearly and dry my eyes. They poured in the pain pills and after about 30 minutes, though a little sore, I was somewhat back to normal. This was early in the evening and now being more exhausted than normal I went to bed. I had a rough night and generally have been feeling pretty bad but we marshal on.
But through all of this how grateful we are once again for the miracle of pain medication. The road ahead doesn't seem as hard now we have that blessing.
Once again we are thankful for all you are doing for our family and when there isn't anything you can do please do something for someone else that will bless not only our lives but yours as well. This story has always inspired me.
