Transplant is Still On Track
They gave us a tentative schedule for the Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT), and the BMT is scheduled for the 22nd of July. Before then, I will continue to get chemo treatments to keep the cancer at bay. My time will also be filled with blood tests, transfusions, tests, lumbar punctures, and more. In addition, just a few days before the BMT, I will have several days of full-body radiation and two days of a massive dose of incredibly potent chemo. These treatments are to do their best to ensure there is no active cancer in my body. Right now, I don't have any, but we need to do our best to prevent the cancer from recurring. These treatments also kill off most of my blood cells and stem cells to make room for the ones.
July can't come quick enough, however, we also need the time to get our home ready and be ready physically and emotionally. This is a big deal, and the main thing we pray for is that my body will not reject the stem cells. The fact that the donation is coming from a sibling and that it is a 10 out of 10 match bodes well for the chances of no rejection. I have read stories of people who have been around for 30 years after BMT and are still going strong, and others who sadly didn't last very long. So we want to be on the 30-year plan.
I haven't blogged much because the side effects have affected my eyes and hands, as they twitch. So, it is a very difficult type. And see the screen. I will do more once they subside.
As the Lord taught Joseph Smith,
"My son, peace be unto thy soul; thine adversity and thine afflictions shall be but a small moment;
And then, if thou endure it well, God shall exalt thee on high; thou shalt triumph over all thy foes." (D&C 121:7-8)
I believe this with all my heart!
